Power Sector Reform in Southern Grid | |
China’s central government recently asked the five-province Southern Grid region to become the first integrated regional electricity market. This could be a major step forward for renewable energy and guide the way for the rest of the country. RAP continues to engage with regional policymakers on energy policy, market design, and planning decisions. Southern Grid’s widely read Energy Observer published two of RAP’s articles on renewable energy and storage participation in the power market (in Chinese). | |

China’s Energy Plan: Making It Work for Carbon Peaking | |
In November 2020, China’s National Energy Administration requested input on the yet-to-be-published 14th Five-Year Energy Plan (2021-25). RAP’s response makes recommendations to align the electricity plan component with the country’s “before 2030” and 2060 decarbonization goals. The electricity plan is an important platform for considering a cost-effective, clean and reliable mix of resources.
