The European Commission recently announced its Renovation Wave Strategy, which calls for mandatory minimum energy performance standards for existing buildings. On the planned trajectory to net zero by 2050, buildings will play a pivotal role. Europe needs to at least triple the current rate and depth of renovations to hold this course, and minimum energy performance standards are a powerful option.
