Equity in the energy transition: Who pays and who benefits?
The European Green Deal aims to make the EU the first climate-neutral region by 2050. The transition to clean energy is key to attaining this goal. A successful transition will rest on the European Union’s ability to share the associated costs and the benefits fairly. RAP examines the market, regulatory and policy decisions that affect how costs are passed on through consumer bills and recommends a set of principles and policies for a fair energy transition.

Net zero is nowhere in sight for UK clean heat policy
The UK government committed to a net-zero carbon target by 2050. Now it needs to take aggressive action to drive down carbon emissions from heating. Its new proposed plans, however, fail to set an even remotely realistic trajectory, say Jan Rosenow and Samuel Thomas. In fact, at the rate established by the new policy, it would take more than 1,500 years to install the 19 million heat pumps needed to meet the net-zero emissions goal.
