Meet Veronica Moore, Mustang Camp Intern Extroidanairre!

We are so grateful to have Karen's friend and trainer here to work with Archangel Michael in order to get Michael gentle enough to be gelded so he can be reunited with his family! Veronica completed her training at Mustang Camp under the tutelage of Patricia Barlow-Irick. Lets document the progress so far...

In Veronica's own words regarding the beginning gentling of Archangel Michael...

"First session: Taking food from the scary hands of a human. I’d say Michael is doing well. First session he ate from my hand 3 times then walked away to look at the mares.

Next session: lasted 20 minutes out of my hand. I rewarded him by putting the rest of his hay in his tub and put it in his stall. He didn’t go in to the stall right away. He took food from my hand 2 more times."

This is a wonderful beginning to building a trusting relationship between human and horse.

Until Next Session...

Update On The Fate Of The Wild Onaqui Herd

From the American Wild Horse Campaign Website

An update from the rally on April 5th to save the wild horses of Onaqui. The AWHC and Salt River Wild Horse Management Group posted this update as to what transpired. Read on...

Incredible turnout at the #SaveOnaqui rally. People from all over the country --including NY, FL, TN, CO, NM, NV and CA – joined a fabulous group of Utahns to be a voice for the wild horses of the Onaqui mountains. After the rally, AWHC and the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group delivered 100,000 signatures on a petition opposing the roundup of 80% of the Onaqui herd to the BLM, and met with top BLM Utah officials about collaborating for the humane management of the Onaqui wild horses.

The BLM is to be commended for its work to develop existing fertility control program there (in conjunction with Wild Horses of America Foundation) and its openness to collaborating with our groups to further expand the program as a humane alternative to large-scale roundups from this HMA. The meeting opened a positive dialogue between our groups and the BLM, and we plan to meet again with the BLM Utah officials in 1-2 weeks to further discuss how we can collaborate for the benefit of the beloved Onaqui wild horses.

Volunteer Stories

8 Simple Steps to be More Present - As Taught By Horses

Every week Equine Voices will feature our incredible volunteers! It could be a picture, a poem, interesting information, or a story ...whatever you choose to submit will be great!

So please, submit material to or call me at 520.398.2814 and keep a lookout for your stories, of our incredible volunteers!

Where are you right now?

Not physically, but mentally and emotionally.  Are you here, or are your thoughts somewhere else?  Did you notice your surroundings on your way to your current location or the eye color of the last person you interacted with? How present are you now?  As you’re reading this, are you doing anything else besides just reading this?

Being present may seem like a simple thing, and it can be, but we regularly overlook this powerful and often elusive state of being. In our busy, modern world our minds are frequently somewhere other than where our bodies are. We are so used to being in this state of split-presence, that it can become challenging to be present, even when we want to be.

If our equine friends weren’t good at being present, they could find themselves in grave danger.
