One Step Closer to Family Reunification

Thanks to his Mustang Camp “target” training with Veronica Moore, Archangel Michael’s gelding procedure on Monday, May 20th went without incident. Veronica taught him the skills and Al continued reinforcement of these skills with him to “target” the needle (practiced with an empty, needle-less syringe) in his neck area so that he wouldn’t be afraid and spook when it came time to sedate him for surgery. The skill is just one of the things he learned in his sessions with Veronica and later with Al.

He has recovered very well from the gelding procedure and continues to play his target games with Al and seems to really enjoy the interaction with people. Thank you to Veronica Moore, Al, Dr. Echols, staff, volunteers, donors and sponsors who have made this possible!  We are looking forward to the day we can reunite Archangel Michael with his Layla, Bam-Bam and Domingo, the Sahuarita Mustang Family.

To continue to help us care for this wonderful little family, visit or call the office at 520.398.0352.

Implementation of Dangerous Plan for Wild Horse Management

Wild Horse/Animal Protection Groups Seek Changes to Avoid Mass Removals and Ensure Humane Management

WASHINGTON, DC (May 22, 2019)  Today, the House Appropriations approved legislative and report language in the FY 2020 Interior, Environment and Related Agencies appropriations bill related to wild horse and burro management.

While the bill does include language sought by the American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC) to impose on the Forest Service the same prohibition on slaughtering wild horses and burros that applies the BLM, the legislation provides $6 million for to begin implementation of a dangerous mass roundup and removal plan promoted by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, the American Farm Bureau Federation, the Public Lands Council and other Agribusiness lobbying groups along with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the ASPCA.

Presented as a broad stakeholder compromise, the plan is actually opposed by the vast majority of stakeholders in the wild horse protection community.
