We're Looking For Our Forever Home!

Volunteer Kelsi Montgomery and Mazie...

Mazie and Mimi peeking in the background...

Mazie and Mimi are mother and daughter burros who were adopted in October of 2017 from Healing Hearts Rescue in Cave Creek, Arizona.  They were only in their new home for about 6 months before they were returned to Healing Hearts.  The new adopters were moving to a property without land so they could no longer keep them. In late 2018, Equine Voices adopted the girls as Healing Hearts was at their capacity and we had the room as well as a herd of burro friends for them! Mazie and Mimi fit in right away and enjoy their burro habitat.

Mazie is very friendly, as anyone can tell from these photos! Mimi is a bit camera-shy but a sweetheart nonetheless.  They are looking for their forever home! If you have room in your heart and home, please contact us at 520.398.2814 or visit www,equinevoices.org for details on adoption/sponsorship!

Speak Up!

The latest on the plight of the wild horses of America, from the American Wild Horse Campaign.  Equine Voices is dedicated to raising consciousness of the public to issues such as the wild horse and we bring you the latest news from americanwildhorsecampaign.org.

The BLM is continuing its "business as usual" agenda with the announcement of a roundup and removal plan for California's Twin Peaks wild horse and burro herd. The agency is planning to roundup and remove horses and burros to “achieve and maintain low AML” over the next ten years, implement fertility control on all mares and jennies, manage a non-reproducing population of geldings, and skew the wild horse sex ratio in favor of males. The BLM needs to hear from you.

Comments due by July 1, 2019.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public comments on a roundup and removal plan for the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area (HMA) on the California and Nevada border. The HMA is made up of nearly 800,000 acres of public and private lands but the BLM's arbitrary population limits known as Appropriate Management Level (AML) is set at 448 to 758 wild horses and 72 to 116 burros. For context, the low AML works out to one horse on every 1,700 acres and one burro for almost every 11,000 acres! The BLM plans to roundup and remove horses and burros to “achieve and maintain low AML” over the next ten years, implement fertility control on all mares and jennies, manage a non-reproducing population of geldings, and skew the wild horse sex ratio in favor of males.
