WOW WHAM ON WHEELS
Volunteer Today!
|
WHAM on Wheels has a new trailer that we just had completed and outfitted with lighting using a solar panel to charge the RV battery to power them! We take folding tables and all the art supplies that we need and set up to teach the public how to do a make and take art project. We can seat about 20-25 people at a time and usually serve 200-400 people during an event!
List of events located in the chart at the end of this newsletter. Contact Heather Young to volunteer.

ASK JUDITH:
Monthly Art Question
|
This month’s question comes from Wham member Carree Tolle who asked, “Judith, what is the
Wham on Wheels all about?” Good question, Carree, but I knew nothing except seeing a

wooden box on wheels pull into the Wham parking lot one day in 2014 donated by the engineering department of ASU. “What are you going to do with that?”, I asked Connie Whitlock our executive director. She smiled her broad smile and explained that we could take it to events and offer art projects in parks. Being a former Hippie it was just her cup of tea. She had a vision for a traveling art studio! Fast forward, the Wham On Wheels name is shortened to WOW. It has been remodeled and rebuilt. The Wham Teens painted it once with the help of Margaret Lieu. One of our veterans,Tim Beinfang stripped it, put it on a new trailer with a new box most recently in 2019. The most recent paint-job was done by Heather Young who is now the manager of this program. It looks cute when she wears a matching Wham shirt when she takes it to places in Surprise, Peoria, Glendale, Avondale, Goodyear and Buckeye and gives children an interactive art experience. There are 12 events scheduled at the present time and in the future, the program may possibly expand and include another “Wham On Wheels” proving that Wham is literally a MOVEMENT. Moving to inspire artists wherever they are.

“I love to be outside Plein Air painting enjoying the sounds of the wind, the birds, the beautiful scenery and in the quietness trying to get those feelings and colors down on my canvas. Paintings don’t always turn out perfect but the experience is perfect! At my home studio, I enjoy painting from my own photos of these

NOTES FROM THE GALLERY:
Award Winners
|
It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there for the public scrutiny of your artwork. Artists put their entire heart and soul into their work, so the fear of criticism or rejection can keep many talented

artists from answering calls for art and entering competitions. Entering more shows will help to build your confidence and your artistic abilities, so keep on being creative and put your work out there for folks to enjoy.
A big thank you to all of the artists who entered the recent open calls from the WHAM Art Gallery. The September call was entitled“Tribal Echoes” and was a dual show sharing the gallery with “Africa in my Heart” by Kampala, Ugandan artist, Brian Begumbe. OPEN FREE STUDIO:
WHAMmeo
We are starting our new season of having an Open Free Studio (newly named "Whameo") in the large classroom. It will run every 1st Thursday for the months of Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, and May from 9-12 AM. Everyone brings what

they want to work on and a bag lunch to continue the camaraderie at 12 in the dining room. Last season was fun and fulfilling as we shared ideas and sometimes a demonstration.
I am hoping for a great turnout this season so studio and non-studio artists become better acquainted as we converse, work, and laugh together!! Join us by going to the website and registering where the drop-down menu says, classes. If you forget, come anyway. We just want to have an idea about tables. See you on Nov. 7th around 9 AM.

We now offer a service where you can advertise your work, studio or promote being in a show on our TV at the docent desk that will be running every day the gallery is open. A minimal fee will be charged. See Connie Whitlock or ME Odom for details. ME Odom is also offering a service of creating a 30 or 60 sec. video if you want more than just photos running.
