Gift Shop - Success

Mike Verhoeks is a clay artist who does all his work on the potter's wheel. He primarily works with crystalline glaze, which is the art of growing crystals on pottery during the firing process. It is a special effects glaze made primarily of particles of zinc oxide and

silica. Mike is a master of using this technique, which resembles frosted glass on windows in round circles covering the stoneware. Costs of his beautiful art begin at $38. Smaller prices items, such as mugs are $12 and spoon holders are $4. Mike is a valuable member of WHAM as he earns his volunteer hours making many of the bowls that we use for the Bowls of Hope Event each year. He has a studio at WHAM Art Association where he is often found working at the wheel creating the most breathtaking pieces! Bowls, bowls with lids, plates, mugs, vases, urns all come to brilliant radiance with his crystalline glaze technique. Please make an effort to come to the WHAM Gift Shop to see his work!

Kleidon Has Virtual Art Show in NYC

Dennis Kleidon, Professor of Art Emeritus of the University of Akron and CEO of Kleidon & Associates, a marketing communications firm in Bath, will show recent abstract paintings in a virtual solo exhibit at the Walter Wickiser Gallery in New York City. The show can be viewed online at the gallery website, www.walterwickisergallery.com.  It will include twenty paintings and runs January 2  - February 8.  As a virtual show, it can be seen by everyone without travel required and will have international circulation.

Kleidon’s work has been reviewed by Edward Lucie-Smith, the world’s most legendary and prolific art critic. Lucie-Smith says “Kleidon’s paintings are not Minimalist. They are deeply personal. You see the motion of the creator’s hand. They are in no way blank – on the contrary, they are bursting with life…. This exhibition is not simply the work of someone who likes making paintings and is good at that. It is the product of someone who is obsessed with the idea of communication – with using paint on a surface to transfer ideas-plus-sensations…from his mind, his sensibility to yours.” The full review, as well as Kleidon’s artwork, can be seen at www.denniskleidon.com

This exhibit includes select abstract paintings done in the past few years, including the Unleashed, Taliesin and Transformation series. Inspired by the boulders at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, the backgrounds of Kleidon’s paintings reveal the magnificent colors and textures of these natural forms. Each painting has an almost sculptural or architectural presence, a reflection of Kleidon’s background in design, architecture and sculpture. These powerful, elegant images are inspired by petroglyphs found in the Arizona desert and created by ancient Native Americans. His work is also influenced by the graceful strokes of Asian calligraphy.

Unleashing Your Imagination is a theme in Kleidon’s artwork and of his soon-to-be-published book of the same title.

Dennis Kleidon is a Professor of Art Emeritus at the University of Akron, co-founder of Kleidon & Associates, and author of Unleash Your Imagination. He maintains studios in Akron, Ohio, and Surprise, Arizona.

To see the show, visit www.walterwickisergallery.com. Kleidon’s work can also be viewed at  www.denniskleidon.com. For more information, contact Dennis Kleidon at 330-329-7408.
