The polarisation of society into antagonistic groups who refuse all those they consider as “others” is an increasingly pressing issue. This growing phenomenon, which is heightened by the rise of social media, poses a challenge to local authorities. As part of the BRIDGE European project (Building resilience to reduce polarisation and growing extremism), Efus and the project experts have penned a positioning paper that explores the notion of polarisation. (...)




The security of public spaces is an issue on which Efus and its members have long worked. Numerous projects are conducted on this theme by Efus member local authorities and through European projects that are either led by Efus or in which it is a partner. Public spaces are the heart of cities, the places that embody their identity and where urban life is concentrated. Because they are open to all, they are vulnerable to different types of risk that call for a coordinated approach involving all relevant actors. (...)


Take part in the PRoTECT seminar on “Identifying vulnerabilities and reducing the risk of terrorist threats against public places: cooperation among all actors”, which will be held on 17 July in Brasov (Romania). The seminar is open to all: representatives of local authorities, police, experts, security practitioners and other actors working at national and European level.




As part of the Cutting Crime Impact (CCI) project, Efus analysed 45 European projects aimed at preventing or reducing petty crime and interviewed a number of coordinators and end users (law enforcement agencies and political decision makers). What tools and solutions are most commonly recommended? What hinders their adoption? What are the recommendations to improve results? (...)




Final conference of the Solidify project, 5-6 December 2019, Lisbon, Portugal

How to accompany the establishment of a supervised drug consumption facility – a solution that has proved to be effective to reduce harm linked to consumption and trafficking – through a broad local partnership? The partners of the Solidify European project conducted over two years by Efus will present the results of their work during the final conference to be held in Lisbon (Portugal), on 5-6 December. This will be a unique opportunity to exchange about drug policies.

In order to reach out to children from deprived neighbourhoods, the city of Valence set up with the association Rugby Planet a mobile rugby school that intervenes in the city's primary and secondary schools. It not only teaches this sport but also life skills and non-discrimination. (...)
