December Update

It's impossible to believe we are reaching the end of 2019. The Ireland Funds Australia has had a wonderful year, with your support we have hosted 12 fantastic events bringing together friends, old and new, across Australia, enabling us to continue our vital support of projects in Ireland and Australia.

From the success of our events and the generosity of our supporters we were able to have a grant round of over $400,000 in June to 18 projects, a snapshot of which is included below. Full details of our grant round can be viewed in our Trustee Report and additional information regarding our projects can be viewed here. We are very proud of the fact that averaged over the last five years, 80.16% of tax deductible donations received by us have been allocated to our projects.

One of the absolute highlights of 2019 was of course our return to Fairwater in October for the Sydney Garden Party, where the grounds were transformed into Ancient Ireland, Land of Saints, Scholars...and Sinners. We were extremely privileged that the new owners hosted us and gave us an incredibly warm welcome. We were also delighted to be the first Ireland Funds event globally on the journey to being carbon neutral; we worked with Mossy Earth to rejuvenate a Native Irish Wasteland with non-invasive native species and we helped regenerate select native species that support natural ecosystems and wildlife here in Australia with the help of the Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund.

I am very pleased of the partnership we have formed with The Lansdowne Club, Australia's premier Irish business network, to support the work of The Ireland Funds as their "Charity of Choice".

I would love to connect and work with as many Irish organisations as we can, sharing information and supporting each other at the very minimum. Please feel free to reach out to me.

I am extremely proud of the work that the Young Leaders have done in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane; they are without doubt, some of the most active Young Leaders globally. Leading another successful Global 5k, and nominating projects to support around mental health, community development and science, including Irish Men's Sheds, an Australian initiative, to bring men shoulder to shoulder in their local communities, improving their health and well-being.
The Young Leaders truly are the next generation of philanthropy and are vital to ensuring the longevity of the work of the Fund.

My heartfelt thanks for your support and donations throughout the year. I keep asking and you keep giving. However, I have personally seen a number of the projects we support in action, and can assure you that with your help the support we provide changes lives, many of them young lives. Hope is a powerful gift to be able to give and I thank you for enabling us to give it on your behalf.

On behalf of our Chairman Yvonne Le Bas, our Board of Directors, Young Leaders and myself thank you for all that you do. We wish you, your family and loved ones a very Safe and Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
